Two beginnings - beautiful translucent washes to hold it all together

Colours ready and happiness can flow - I usually don't like using masking fluid but when doing these huts and houses it is a fun way to save good lines and highlight points then allow the washes to just leap around the page and have a little party of their own.

Jenny and Fay - I catch you in the act of being reckless, so many wonderful memories of painting with you both in JBay

Christine was inspired by a card in the resource collection and the magical washes take the idea to a new level

Leonie was inspired by a card painted by my cousin in Irelend - Jo-Anne Yelen

Mia exploring the delight of water colour and was also the photographer for the day. Thank you so much dear Mia for taking pictures of all the artists at work
Many thanks to you all for the wonderful day of painting.  Next time we have to make it a two day so that we can finish the painting.  Lots of lovely ideas shared with little tricks and techniques.

Thank you Fay for getting the Methodist Church in Jeffrey's Bay for us to use.

Thank you Christine for inspiring the event and gathering the artists of St Francis Bay together.

It was delightful seeing painting friends from our years of painting together and also wonderful meeting new artist friends.

The lunch and snacks you brought were great - enough food for a week of painting without feeling a twinge of hunger.

THANK YOU ALL X

Making colour mixes gives us a great way of looking at how the blends will look and then we can work out if they are translucent enough
Our painting beginnings are always filled with wonder, excitement and trepidation .... we wonder whether we will be able to sustain the excitement and move the painting into the next phase.

Heaven Forbid we mess it up or make a mistake!

We can love every minute of our splashing and creating if we just let go of the judgement and allow for the serendipity of the moment.  Then each moment can weave its way into a creation of delight - no matter how it ends up looking.

Ahhhh! now go and paint and play!
Picture
Where will this go - it is a delightful mystery
Picture
Can you see the magic and this was only just the first wash - why would we paint any other way?
Picture
I love these colours

Lesley I love the way you embrace the process of creating

Leonie normally paints in oil and her paintings are just beautiful

Not so serious my darling Friend x
We missed our precious friend Heather, sorry you were not well enough to make the day.

In Loving Memory of my Mommy - Gwyn Horn - I dedicate my workshops to you as I hold the memories of times shared painting with you x

Exploring more Flow - One Day of crazy water colour happiness in Jeffrey's Bay

August 4th, 2014

Picture
One delightful day to create glorious magic, play with textures, and float colours in a way that will make your heart sing.

Jeffrey's Bay - Methodist Church Hall is the venue for this fun workshop. We will be exploring new ways of enjoying colour and for a bit more craziness how about bringing your old paintings that just haven't worked and we will re-work them and find new ways of seeing a success as we build a new masterpiece.

Directions to Methodist Church in JBay: Look for Petunia Avenue as you travel down Da Gama road from the town side to Kabeljouws side.  It will be on your left - go around to the parking at the back.

What to bring:

Paper: A4 and A3 sheets of water colour paper - hotpressed if possible and at least 300 grams in weight.

Colours: We are going to do a fun technique with these three specific colours - winsor red, winsor yellow and cobalt blue.
Bring whatever other colours you have.

Brushes:  Flat, round and large, old toothbrush ....

Small containers with lids so that we can pour our paint when we need to.

Spray bottle, sponge, paper towel, an old towel to wipe up mess, and water containers.
(Are you getting the idea that we are going to be a bit adventurous).

Thank you to Fay Keevy for securing the Methodist Church Hall in Jeffrey's Bay.  Let us meet at 10:00 and we will paint until about 3:30.

Please bring lunch to share, water to drink, juice and some tea snacks to share.

The cost for the day will be R250.

I am looking forward to seeing you and painting with you once again.
